Paintings
Sat 01 Nov 2008 04:38:04 PM MDTI'm just entering into a fascination with the buttery, slow-developing quality of oil paints. These are a few of what I like to think of as early practice pieces.
Forest Folk
Sun 27 Jul 2008 12:43:15 PM MDTThese are fairy tales made real, all the threads of folklore brought to life through the abundance of the island's summer detritus. They have polymer clay heads, and preserved cedar bodies on poseable wire skeletons.
Porcelain Tiles
Tue 31 Mar 2009 10:55:10 PM MDTSome of these are fired, some still bisque; a partial and motley sampling of my tile output. I love the feel of the white clay, and the risk of sculpting that first tile, which I then destroy in the process of making the mold.
Raku
Sun 05 Oct 2008 06:14:49 PM MDTWe are waiting to set up the raku kiln until my studio is built, so I have a boxful of unfired work. Tiles, vessels, odds and ends. The clay has a sturdy body that invites the making of open vessels.
Sculpted Porcelain Dolls
Thu 18 Dec 2008 01:18:58 PM MSTI'm not too interested in the angel archetype, but this one was commissioned by someone who sent me her wedding dress to include. The wing-feathers came from a dead bird I found, which seemed appropriate.
